“I had an eye infection and was in some discomfort on a Friday afternoon and called my GP who said that if the pain got worse to call NHS 111. It did get worse and on the Saturday I called NHS 111  who suggested that I went to Redcar Primary Care Hospital and to the STAR scheme rather than minor injuries.

“I hadn’t heard of the STAR scheme beforehand but after the service I got – I was quickly seen and the staff were excellent – I’d use the STAR scheme again if I was in a similar situation. The pain subsided and it was first class and I’ve been telling a lot of my friends about the service, should they need out-of-hours GP advice.”


“I work through the week and I had a chest complaint that clearly wasn’t getting any better. I had seen at my own GP practice literature about the STAR scheme and the extended hours my surgery – Bentley Medical Practice – was open. I went along to Redcar Primary Care Hospital at around 7.15pm on a weekday evening and the staff were welcoming and very efficient. I think that every GP surgery should  be able to offer this service because so many people like myself find it extremely difficult getting to see a GP in normal working hours, but I’d definitely use it again if I needed to. It would be my first port of call.”
